A few years ago, Malcolm MacDonald wrote a series of 10 walks with maps for villages in the Kirkburton Parish Council area, based on heritage details supplied by Councillors.
Recently funding has been accessed from EPIP to have these walks professionally printed and revamped using an historical local character to guide walkers around the route. Sufficient money was obtained to put a sculpture of sorts on each walk. The inspiration came from the 1738 huide stoop in Thurstonland and each village in the Parish Council area will have its own guide stoop with 2 carved images that reflect the village and its local heritage.
So why Fitton Frolic for Shelley?
Albert Fitton was a corset maker in Shelley, producing the 'Shelley Dreadnought'!
Hopefully the walks leaflets will be available in libraries and post offices shortly.
