Shelley Brownies
Lord Baden – Powell, founded Brownies in 1914.
Younger sisters of the new Guide and Scout movement showed an interest in joining.
A special section called the Rosebuds was then set up for them – but no one liked the name of the group so only a year later it was changed.
Lord Baden – Powell gave them their new name ‘Brownies’ after remembering a story he had heard about helpful, mysterious creatures named Brownies.
Over the 90year history of the Brownie Section there have been many changes but the main ideas are there: –
to have fun,
meet new people,
learn new things,
and to help and think of others
