Shelley Village
As soon as the National winner, St Neot, Cornwall was announced, I was hustled off to speak to Home FM with applause still ringing in my ears.
I had to hide my disappointment, as St Neot had not won any of the regional categories.
It is not for me to dwell on the vagaries of the judging system.
They assured us that the result had been very close, indicating that we were ‘National Runners-up’.
The consoling factor was that, in winning the 4 category awards, we were the first village ever to do so.
This impressed the YTV ‘Calendar’ producer and he agreed to do a feature on Shelley and its people.
