Kirkburton needed just one point to clinch the championship when we travelled to Riley Lane for the penultimate match of the season.
We were looking for our first double of the season and if we pulled off a victory there was every chance that we might win the Hopkinson Trophy, awarded to the side who collected most points from their last six matches.
What a disappointment!
This was our nadir of the season as we were skittled out for 52 with Lesroy Irish, the home team’s pace bowler, exploiting the difficult wicket to take 8 for 24.
We never put up a fight and when 14 runs came from the first over of the home team’s innings it set the pace with a ten wicket defeat coming off the first ball of the seventh over.
