There was no tight finish in the next match because despite making 174 for 7 we were beaten by 104 runs. This was mainly due to one, Phil Mustard, who was making a rare appearance for Lepton.
He put on an absolute brilliant batting display with an array of fours and sixes reminiscent of Pushy in recent years. It came to an end when he had made 176. His side posted a total of 278 for 6.
Shelley had a batting hero, but his innings was in a total different vein from the Durham player but Ahmed’s contribution of 97 not out at least deprived the home team of a point that was to prove vital in their quest for promotion.
It was inevitable that the next match would be a damp squib and it was in more ways than one.
Rain seems to be a regular feature in Shelley’s home games and the visit of Linthwaite was no exception for the game was abandoned when the visitors had reached 87 for 4.
