Shelley Cricket Club
At the end of the day we were still not mathematically safe from relegation.

The following day we were routed at Delph when we were shot out for a miserable 78. The home side were made to fight but the inevitable victory came at 3.30 with a score of 79 for 4.

Good news came later in the day when it was learnt that Marsden had lost at Kirkburton and that ensured we would be playing Premiership cricket next season.

We could now approach our last game of the season at Westerley Lane against Hoylandswaine in a relaxed manner.

The curtain came down on the season with a visit to Hoylandswaine with nothing at stake for either side apart from pride.

It was the first time in 26 league games that we didn’t approach it with some apprehension. It turned out to be something of a run feast.

In our ranks we had a bowling hero in the form of Abid Hussein who had made just one previous appearance for the club this season.
