Despite some late problems with regards to signings the club was full of confidence and the feeling was that it was a question of when promotion would be won, not if it would be won.
It was expected that Kirkburton would be the biggest challenger and we were due to meet them in our first match, followed by a big test the following day against top club, New Farnley in the Heavy Woollen Cup.
Both matches were won but neither, particularly the Kirkburton match convincingly.
In fact the consensus of opinion was that the visitors threw it away. Batting first, Chris Schofield got off to a fine start making 46, aided and abetted by Asim Khan who made 39 and Craig Matthews 35 as we posted a score of 201 for 9.
Kirkburton looked to be coasting to victory despite Khan taking 4 for 30 but had only made 193 for 8 when the overs were completed.
