I learned from those who were responsible for the history of Shepley Cricket Club that in the library in Huddersfield all the past issues of the Examiner were stored on microfilm.

You can view these by turning a handle that moves the film on from issue to issue. As you can imagine this was a major task thumbing through the news and adverts page after page.

It is bad enough flicking through a week’s supply of papers when you have been on holiday so you can imagine the magnitude of the task of examining more than one hundred years of papers. I found it very enthralling and every spare minute I had was spent at the library.

Another source of news was the Cricket Club minute books.

Although these were by no means complete some that were available dated back to the early 1920s. Just for the record these can now be located in the archives at Huddersfield Library after languishing for many years in my loft.
