What a finish to our year! Shelley, as a village, has won the extraordinary accolade of winner of the Prime Minister’s Big Society Award. We are the first village and general Community Association to do this - and were the 11th winners in what is to be a year of winners.
I am not sure the Government has quite tied down this idea of ‘Big Society’ but it has always been obvious that Shelley has!
We are the embodiment of an active community that through vigorous co-operation, common sense, vision and self-reliance has looked after its own residents and those from farther afield.
The reports you will hear tonight will demonstrate this - and our group is just one of many highly active community groups and institutions in Shelley.
