The players, officials, supporters and indeed the entire village can feel proud of the achievements of Shelley Cricket Club during the past season.

Cricket can trace its origins in the village back to 1861 and the year 2006 found both senior teams occupying their highest ever league position in the hierarchy of Huddersfield League cricket and have become a team that everyone likes to beat in Drakes League circles.

Next year of course the target must be to carry off one, if not both, of the ultimate prizes, the Byrom Shield and the Sykes Cup.

All the players who took us to the runners-up position in the Premiership have pledged to return next season.

Pushpakumara, who will by now plying his talents in Colombo, has already re-signed and has stated that he would like to continue to coach the under-fifteens and he hopes to be around to see many of them join him in the first eleven in a few years time.
