Many years ago Shelley Cricket Club were the pioneers of Junior Cricket when they called a meeting that resulted in the setting up of an under seventeen league.
Now the cricketers get younger and younger with the club already operating teams at under 15, 13 and 11 level.
Last weekend the target was to attract players at under nine level, some little taller than a full size bat. Martin Parker is in charge of our team at this level.
Last Saturday morning it was a sight for sore eyes as our club organised a competition for eight teams in which Almondbury Wesleyans proved most successful.
Winning wasn’t the most important aspect, it was all about taking part, and each of the eight teams took part in at least three games and the youngsters and their parents enjoyed it very much.
Shelley once more were the pioneers and already three similar competitions have been organised by other clubs and undoubtedly there will be more.
