With the 2006 season fast approaching Shelley Cricket Club have made their first big signings for their return to the Drakes League Premiership.
Muthumadalige (Muthu) Pushpakumara will be their overseas player for the 2006 season. The Sri Lankan player had a highly successful season with Meltham last season.
When he arrived the Mean Lane side was in deep relegation trouble after nine matches had been played. The new signing brought a total transformation as he made 665 runs at an average of 41.56. He also took 40 wickets at 20.4.
He is an aggressive middle order batsman and bowls fast leg-breaks.

Graeme Hurlbatt who had a very successful season with the Westerley Lane club last year, will continue to skipper the side and is delighted with the new signing.
