Mid Season Review
By Bob Haigh

The Summer Solstice was greeted by brilliant sunshine and soaring temperatures.

This was in direct contrast to the cold, wet conditions that Shelley’s cricketers have endured as the season reached its half way point.

A look at the league tables provides a glimpse of sunshine because our local team was not the only unbeaten team in the Conference but throughout the entire league at first team level. Julian Barden’s recruitment drive had obviously paid dividends.

Graeme Hurlbatt who has taken over as skipper after an illustrious career with neighbours, Skelmanthorpe, has led by example taking wickets in every match picking up four or more in five games and at the halfway point in the season had accumulated 42.

He has also made many runs.
