The amount of junior cricket being played at Shelley during the summer puts an enormous strain on our playing facilities.
Because of this we applied for a grant from Kirkburton Area Committee to aid the purchase of an artificial cricket wicket. We believed such a facility was essential if we are to continue to provide the youngsters of Shelley with good conditions to learn and develop as cricketers.
At a meeting of the area committee at Mirfield in July the bid was approved and particular thanks go to Margaret Brooke and Christine Smith for their help with the application.
During the week ending August 20th the new pitch was laid under the supervision of groundsman Lindsay Burgin.
