Mortimer is an all-round sportsman having played representative rugby and hockey, as well as cricket, where he has enjoyed much success at top grade level.
He is a tree-feller by trade and his six foot two inch build is highly suited to a fast opening bowler as well as a high scoring number four batsmen. With no agents involved this time, no problems are envisaged.
Shelley cricketer, Stephen ‘Bertie’ Hinchliffe, who has been in South Africa to watch all the Tests, has taken time off to see the new signing several times and is very impressed in what he has seen. Hinchliffe is continuing his travels to Australia but is still looking forward to donning his whites to appear for Shelley in mid season.
Mortimer is 21 years old and has already played in New Zealand.
Galpharm, who sponsor professional sport, with its name gracing the stadium that is home both to Town and the Giants, has shown its commitment to local sport by sponsoring Shelley’s new signing. He will be employed at Galpharm during his season with Shelley.
