Great hopes rested on the shoulders of John and his batting style generated much confidence.
The youngster who celebrated his 21st birthday during the season and was given the number three spot at the start of the season and promised an extended run to prove himself.
Alas he failed to make a decent score and at the beginning of June he asked to be given a run in the second team. The worst thing happened for in his first game he was out for a duck.
The poor lad was so depressed he took a break from the game spending his Saturday afternoons on driving lessons. Happily he returned celebrating the eve of his birthday with an innings of 37 and then going on to make an unbeaten half century in his next match.
Things are now looking much brighter for the likeable youngster.
