There can be no bigger worker for junior sport in the village than Dave and his hard working colleague Simon Barraclough.
The pair were largely responsible for the start of junior cricket at the club that now includes under eleven, thirteen and fifteen age groups. Both act as coaches.
Add to this his involvement in junior football where he might referee three matches in a weekend and you have an idea of the stature of the man.
He has had a disappointing season this time but he had enough wicketkeeping ability to represent the Central League a few years ago and captained Shelley for a season after arriving from Holmfirth for who he made a few centuries.
He has played a big part in tidying up the ground surrounds.
