Simon comes from good cricketing stock with Arnold Hamer who opened the batting for Derbyshire throughout the 1950s being his granddad.
He is a family man with two children. He first played cricket for Primrose Hill and went on to play for the first team. He moved on to Marsden where he was skipper for two seasons and was a member of their promotion winning team.
He made three centuries for Marsden but the one that gave him the most pleasure was the one he made for Thongsbridge in his only season for the Holme Valley club that was against Marsden.
He then had six seasons at Linthwaite where he had been skipper for two years before joining Shelley to become our top scorer as opening batsman.
