Captains are always there to be shot at but there can hardly be any criticism of Shelley’s inspirational leader.
The Zimbabwean is respected wherever he has played, not least by neighbours Skelmanthorpe.
He played for the Lidgett Lane club for many seasons, including the all-conquering side of 1991, and they were loath to see him go as he had taken 68 wickets for them in 2004.
He represented South Africa at under 21 level and was just 19 when he played for Primrose Hill in the Drakes League. He had a couple of seasons with Broad Oak and had professional appointments in Ireland.
He has also played first class cricket with Scotland in both Nat West and Benson and Hedges trophies.
