Introduction
“Did you know that Shelley is mentioned in the Doomsday Book?.”
This is the introduction to an article written by Sylvia Taylor for Shelley Magazine in March 1995. At the head of the article and all the other articles that Sylvia wrote was the heading “FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT ”.
In deciding on a title for this section of the website there seemed no more appropriate heading for a chapter that reprints several of the many ‘local history’ articles written for the magazine since 1981.
Besides Sylvia there have been many other contributors, some prolific, some publishing just one or two articles.
Of these we are particularly indebted to the work of Colin Spencer, Jimmy Buxton, who sadly like Sylvia have passed away.
Two other ‘Chroniclers’ Bob Haigh and Nancy Ryden are still with us and both have already contributed greatly over the years. Bob has recorded many of the events and characters of the village for over 40 years in the ‘Chronicle’ and Magazine. Whilst Nancy has through her ‘Hill Top Jottings’ greatly enhanced our knowledge of the history of the village.
