Please note this will be the last diary article for the present time. It is amazing how the last 12 months have flown by!

Overall it has been a good year for wildlife on the Whins and Bridle although a number of butterfly species have had a disappointing year.

Look out for my 2005 Wildlife Highlights article in the January magazine.

As I prepared this article, in early November, we were still experiencing some exceptionally mild weather, making it probably the warmest autumn on record.

Despite the exceptionally mild weather I have seen very few butterflies over the past few weeks except the odd Red Admiral.

However, with the very mild weather it is not impossible that the odd butterfly could still be seen well into November if the present conditions persist. In fact, there are records regularly even in December and January in the milder south-west of England.
