MOTHS:
Migrant Moths had a poor year too, with just a few Silver Y’s seen again.

Moth trapping has taken place regularly adjacent to the Whins again this year and 116 species of the larger (Macro) moths were identified compared to 111 in 2008.

Despite what seemed like another indifferent summer an exceptional 20 new species were recorded for the site.

Namely, Spring Usher, March Moth, Early-toothed Striped, Miller, Latticed Heath, Wood Carpet, Shaded Broad-bar, Frosted Orange, Dark Marbled Carpet, Pine Carpet, Red-green Carpet, Cabbage Moth, Knot Grass, Clay triple Lines, Triple-spotted Clay, Angle-barred Pug, Edinburgh Pug, Nutmeg, Dusky Brocade and best of all an Eyed-Hawkmoth, a species I had hoped to catch for sometime now.
