MOTHS:
Migrant Moths had a poor year too with just a few Silver V’s seen and a bonus in the shape of a nectaring Humming-Bird Hawkmoth found on Buddlea on Water Lane off Far Bank.

Moth trapping has taken place regularly adjacent to the Whins again this year and 111 species of the larger (Macro) moths were identified compared to 97 in 2007.

A further 12 new species were added to the Whins site list, including Leopard Moth, Green Carpet, Triple-spotted Pug, White Spot, Clouded Silver, Iron and Coxcomb Prominents, True Lover’s Knot, Pale-shouldered Brocade, Rustic Shoulder Knot, Flounced and best of all a lovely Lilac Beauty.
