At the time of writing, we are currently on 71 species for the year, the joint second highest total.
For the first time in three years, not one but two new species were recorded on the Whins, bringing the site list to an impressive 88 species.
25 species bred on the Whins & Bridle, a record for both sites. Encouragingly, Willow Warbler bred on the Whins again along with probably Goldcrest and Mistle Thrush for the third year running.
Other highlights included breeding Bullfinch, 2 pairs of Song Thrush and Common Whitethroat was confirmed breeding on the Bridle for the first time.
Unfortunately, although the male Swallow arrived back in the spring, breeding was not seen on Far Bank this year. Finches and House Sparrows seemed to have had another good breeding season. Although Bullfinches raised fewer young than in 2007.
