As wildlife is so dependent upon the prevailing weather conditions, it is always worth looking back over the year to put the recorded wildlife events into context.
The beginning of the year started very mild, with January being the fourth warmest since 1916, with sunshine levels about average. February continued the mild theme, with below average rainfall and above average sunshine.
As spring approached, March was a fairly average month, temperature wise, but the wettest since 1981. Despite the rainfall, there was above average sunshine during the month.
April continued the theme and it was a fairly average month in terms of temperature, rainfall and sunshine. May, unlike 2007, was the warmest on record, going back to 1914 and was below average in terms of rain and well above average in terms of sunshine.
