During the Conservation Group AGM I was asked about improving gardens for wildlife and which plants to grow.
Although the list below is far from exhaustive, there are a number of suggestions which even if a few are introduced should, in time, make even a small garden more wildlife friendly.
1) If you have room in your garden definitely consider introducing a pond or water feature. Not only are they good for amphibians and damsel/dragonflies but will also attract birds to come and dry and bathe.
Ideally at least one of the edges should gently slope to allow birds and small mammals to enter the pond and safely climb out. This is especially important for Hedgehogs which can easily drown if they cannot walk out of the pond comfortably.
