As for last year’s walk, members of the Yorkshire branch of Butterfly Conservation were invited to join in, along with the local community.
With the prospect of a fine, dry Saturday for the first time this summer, it encouraged a record number of 20 people to turn up for the event.
A number of people had travelled some distance, including a young couple who had travelled from Leeds for the first time. They had especially hoped to see the elusive Purple Hairstreak, more on that later.
The weather started warm, with a number of breaks in the cloud. The day was just spoilt with a quite persistent cool breeze. We firstly visited a nearby wildlife garden and examined the contents of a moth trap, which had been set overnight.
