Due to personal reasons I had to delay this year’s walk until the end of the month rather than the beginning. Nevertheless, plenty of birdsong and a few family parties of recently fledged birds gave everybody plenty to see.
A small but dedicated group duly turned out on the above date. After all the recent cold and wet weather we were greeted by a mild day with occasional sunny spells. For once it remained dry all morning!
However, as seems to have been the case for weeks now, there was a strong, cool wind which probably kept a few species hidden amongst the flowering Hawthorn blossom.
28 species (22 in 2005) were seen or heard on the walk, with several species being particularly vocal amongst the Gorse and Hawthorn. Several finch species were also quite vocal with Goldfinches showing well and singing on cue for us.
