As I wrote this article in early December, we had experienced the warmest Autumn on record.
With the hottest July and September this year, it could be that 2006 is the warmest year on record.

Unfortunately many of the fruits and berries on the Whins and Bridle disappeared in the autumn and so wintering birds on both sites were down on previous winters with the visiting Thrushes from Scandinavia particularly scarce.
