Residents responded to extensive leafleting and 15 people turned up for the working party on Saturday 5th November. It was a beautiful morning and several groups were soon carrying out tasks on The Whins and The Bridle.

The main task was to trim back vegetation encroaching on to the footpaths and remove ‘rogue’ saplings from the meadow areas. Some fast growing ash trees were also removed; they were crowding recently planted willow trees in the wet area.

For the benefit of newcomers to the working party, brief histories were given of both sites, together with explanations as to why we were carrying out the environmental work. It will be even more meaningful to everyone when we hold our birdsong and butterfly walks next summer.

A real impact was made on both sites within two hours, and a ‘feel good’ factor was shared by the working party. Afterwards, two young ladies, who had been wielding sectors and saws rushed home to care for their babies - a refreshing reflection of family co-operation and community commitment in our modern times!
