On what will possibly be one of the hottest days of the year, a half dozen people turned up, in perfect conditions to discover the butterflies on the Whins and Bridle. A large black cloud did appear briefly to spoil events but fortunately came to nothing.

I estimate we saw in excess of 300 butterflies of 12 species.

The most numerous was the Gatekeeper which was absolutely abundant and to think it was only found on the Whins 5 years ago. It is now by far the commonest high summer butterfly on the site.
