By Malcolm MacDonald.

This was the third exhibition and like its two predecessors, was plagued by torrential rain. Flaming June! In the half-hour prior to the opening on the Friday evening, the torrential rain was such that it was not fit for people to get out of their cars. However, as soon the rain stopped the visitors arrived and business was brisk.

Televising the World Cup game between England and Denmark was always going to be a big challenge to the organisers. The match was shown on a ‘small screen’ at the Exhibition, but there were few people to witness it.

As soon as the match was over, lots of cheerful folk arrived to see the works of art, textiles and ceramics, watch the art of spinning and enjoy cream teas, glasses of wine and home-made ginger biscuits (the best you have ever tasted!).

The sun came out to show the beautiful grounds of Shelley Hall at their best.
